Music-Themed Movies You Can Sing-Along To

Updated: Dec 9, 2020

Ready for a Sing-Along? This is for all the music lovers out there who enjoy a good movie you can sing to. We want to share with you our Top 5 picks for music-themed movies that make you want to sing to the top of your lungs. All movies can be found on Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, or Prime Video. Without further or do let's get singing!

1. Grease

There isn’t any way you’d let us get away with a list of musical movies and shows without this American classic. Grease, the original “High School Musical” tells a tale that is as old as time. It is a tale of a rough-around-the-edges cigarette-smoking greaser that falls for the good-old Southern girl while trying to act like the cool guy he is and show no emotional attachment. What’s the best way to do that? Sing with your boys of course. So kick up your feet and sing “You’re the One That I Want” along with this masterpiece.

2. High School Musical

WHAT TEAM?! WILDCATS! What can you say about High School Musical that hasn’t already been said? Catchy Broadway-ready music? Check. An ensemble cast with actors and actresses that have all gone on to stardom? Check. (Well, kinda. Sorry Ryan and Taylor!) Are characters being over-dramatic about “issues” in their life? (Yeah Troy. I’m sure coping with having two gorgeous girls fight over you while also being super good at both singing and basketball is real tough). *rolls eyes* Check.

3. Camp Rock

Camp Rock is what I wanted all of my summer camps to be. Surrounded by super-good looking people and all we did was make top 40 pop hits all summer. Where was the signup sheet for these? Must have missed it. Darn. Now you’d think that Disney enlisting the service of one of the hottest boy bands of the 21st century would hog the spotlight, but NO! Demi Lovato’s breakout role catapulted her career into the upper echelons of her wildest dreams, with her powerful vocals one of the brightest spots of this memorable film. And don’t worry Jonas Brothers fans. I still love them too.

4. Footloose

If your movie is so good that Kenny Loggins writes a whole song for the theme, you know you did well. Kevin Bacon plays a city boy that moves to a small town where dancing is illegal. Well, that is just flat-out un-American and would never fly in our country today! You might as well outlaw apple pie! Or people’s right to protest! This is a great movie if you’re ever feeling like you need to stick it to the man (and look damn elegant doing it).

5. Bohemian Rhapsody

If you want to learn more about Fredy Mercury and Queen, this movie is for you! If you love music, this movie is for you! If you love a real-life main character who is not afraid to break the mold, this movie is for you! This movie is based on the life of Fredy Mercury. There is some comedy, some heartfelt moments, and lots of success. This movie will make you fall in love with Fredy Mercury.
